Introduction

In cash management and processing, reliability, security and precise records of every movement of funds are essential. With exactly these requirements in mind, we set out to develop Money Processing — an internal application that Brink's uses to process cash within its logistics and banking operations.

The application supports processes related to ATM replenishment, cash-in-transit records and the processing of funds between customer branches and banks. Built on a modern architecture based on the .NET platform and the Angular framework, the result is a robust solution capable of handling high transaction volumes while maintaining maximum transparency and security.

Context and project goals

Brink's provides cash logistics for banks, retail companies and other organisations. Every day, thousands of operations take place, including:

  • receiving cash from clients
  • sorting and processing banknotes and coins
  • preparing ATM cassettes
  • transferring funds between client branches and banks

Before the project began, several separate systems and manual processes existed side by side. The main goal was therefore to create a single platform that:

  • centralises cash management
  • enables detailed tracking of individual operations
  • minimises errors
  • speeds up data processing and reporting
  • ensures a high level of security and auditability

Architecture and integrations

The solution is built as a microservice architecture on .NET 8 with Angular frontends and a unified design system. Services communicate asynchronously via RabbitMQ (event-driven architecture), IdentityServer with OAuth2 provides unified authentication, data lives in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server, with Redis as cache.

  • money-counting machines from different manufacturers integrated directly into the cash-processing flow
  • a Helios ERP connector — synchronising customers, branches, ATMs and materials with full transactional control and its own monitoring dashboard
  • dedicated integration microservices for Česká spořitelna and Albert
  • a customer portal — online ordering of cash transports and materials with real-time order tracking (in production since November 2025)

Security and operations

  • full auditability — every cash movement and synchronisation is traceable
  • multi-level roles and permissions; the public portal is separated from internal systems by a communication tunnel
  • monitoring via Grafana and Prometheus, with Sentry watching both frontend and backend
  • Docker and CI/CD — regular releases with no downtime

Results and current state

Several separate systems and manual processes became one platform that runs daily cash processing, ATM replenishment and client orders. The second generation of the system (Money Processing II) has been in production since autumn 2025 and is gradually replacing the original vault systems.
